HEADING-TYPE-1The "High-carbon high-alloy tool and mold steel short process technology research

The "High-carbon high-alloy tool and mold steel short process technology research and development and industrialization" technology achievement evaluation meeting was successfully held on September 21, 2023. Experts from the Evaluation Committee of the Chinese Society for Metals conducted a field inspection and detailed communication with the staff of the completion unit. Subsequently, Zhao Ming, the general manager of China Resources Steel, reported on the project's technical report, use report, benefit proof, and technology novelty report. The evaluation committee experts questioned and discussed the project's innovative processes and technologies one by one and unanimously agreed that the project's innovations are as follows:

    ● The research and development of a new process for the low-cost, high-efficiency production of high-carbon high-alloy tool and mold steels, which includes smelting with a 90-ton ultra-high-power electric arc furnace, LF+VD refining, continuous casting, and single-fire rolling, has achieved stable quality mass production.

    ● The breakthrough in continuous casting technology for high-carbon high-alloy tool and mold steels, the development of technologies such as slab straightening temperature control, electromagnetic stirring in the crystallizer and secondary cooling zones, and low-alkalinity protective slag, have enabled the efficient continuous casting production of high-carbon high-alloy cold work mold steel flat billets and high-speed steel square billets.

    ● The research and development of single-fire rolling technology for high-carbon high-alloy tool and mold flat steel, which has achieved the single-fire rolling of 100~750mm continuously cast slabs of high-carbon high-alloy cold work mold steel into 10~50mm thick finished flat steel and the single-fire rolling of 150mm high-speed steel continuously cast square billets into Φ11mm finished wire rods. This technology has increased the production yield by more than 10% and shortened the manufacturing cycle by more than 30 days. The evaluation committee believes that the project's achievements as a whole have reached the international leading level.
